What I will do:
• Read through one draft of your manuscript 2+ times.
• Watch for continuity issues with plot, theme, characters, setting, and writing style (voice), analyzing each from the perspective of your target audience.
• Leave comments on your document.
• Provide you with 2+ pages of written, big-picture commentary.
• Note typos or awkward phrasings when I notice them.
• Be available by email to answer any clarifying questions.
• Provide constructive criticism in a way that improves your writing without discouraging you.
• Adhere to deadlines and finish your manuscript in a timely manner.
What I will not do:
• Read multiple drafts of your manuscript.
• Specifically look for typos or awkward phrasings. (This is called copy-editing, and is very different from developmental editing.)
• Edit manuscripts with sexual content, gratuitous violence, anti-Christian content, or excessive profanities. (If I receive your manuscript and it violates these standards, I will not complete the edit or guarantee refund of your payment. It is your responsibility to make sure your manuscript conforms to my standards before submitting it to me.)
• Edit nonfiction. My specialty is fantasy, but I have the knowledge and experience to edit any genre of fiction for any age.
What I need from you:
• Your manuscript in BOTH Google Docs and PDF by the agreed-upon deadline.
• Any relevant information on your target audience and genre.
At the time of writing, I am only offering developmental editing as part of a Kickstarter reward tier. If you are interested in having me work as a developmental editor on your project, feel free to reach out at authorgracemacpherson.com/contact. While I make no promises (I have a very full college schedule right now), I would love to eventually branch into freelance editing, and so I might be able to edit your project if that’s a good fit for both of us.
