About Me
Qualifications
I have over five years of experience in freelance editing, beginning with copy editing short nonfiction (e.g. articles) and progressing to developmental editing for novels. I have worked for Kloria Publishing as a copy editor since 2024, and have experience doing developmental editing for my own novels since 2022.
In the past six months, I have done developmental editing for half a dozen novels, working to hone my skills through continued experience and by incorporating feedback from clients. Since I’m still relatively inexperienced, I’m currently offering editing at a lower rate than the industry standard. If you’re looking for an affordable editor who still has years of professional experience, I would likely be a good fit for your needs.
I am most familiar with fantasy, science fiction, historical fiction, and romance, but I am comfortable editing any genre and for any target audience.
What to Expect
Editing is one of the most challenging parts of being a writer, and I am dedicated to supporting you through every step of that process. My editorial notes are positive and encouraging, but I also don’t hesitate to point out issues where I see them. If you are looking for an editor with a good understanding of the fiction market and the ability to blend directness with encouragement, I might be the perfect fit for you! Developmental Editing: Fiction
Developmental editing focuses on the big-picture structure of a story. I look for any issues with plot, characters, setting, theme, and voice, as well as anything specific you want me to watch for. I’ll go through your manuscript several times, generally leaving 2-3 comments per page directly on your manuscript. I also provide a separate editorial report, which is usually around 5 pages long. I’m available by email for any follow-up questions you may have, and will generally get back to you within 24 hours.
Rate: $0.008/word

Manuscript Assessment: Fiction
In a manuscript assessment, I look for the same big-picture issues as when I do developmental editing. Unlike developmental editing, however, I won’t leave comments directly on your manuscript. Instead, I only provide an editorial report, which allows me to offer a lower rate while still giving you high-quality, comprehensive feedback. I’m available by email for any follow-up questions you may have, and will generally get back to you within 24 hours.
Rate: $0.005/word

Copy Editing: Fiction
Copy editing is one of the final stages of editing, and focuses on correcting any errors in grammar, spelling, and punctuation to prepare your manuscript for typesetting. When copy editing, I leave suggestions directly on your manuscript (either .docx or .odt) to correct each error I spot. I’ll also provide you with a separate editorial report to point out any repeated errors so that you can correct those yourself moving forward.
Generally, you’ll want to go through developmental and line editing prior to copy editing. I will not provide you with any developmental feedback, but I will point out any major awkward phrasings that weren’t caught in line editing. However, my focus is on the mechanics of the English language—grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Rate: $0.005-$0.01/word, depending on how clean your manuscript is (I’ll ask for a sample and give you a quote after that)

I have little professional experience with developmental editing for nonfiction, line editing for both fiction or non-fiction, and copy editing for nonfiction. However, I’d be willing to consider taking on a project outside of my area of expertise for a lower rate. If you’re interested in this and would like to hear more about my experience in any of these areas, as well as get a quote for your project, feel free to reach out through my contact form at this link.
Content Requirements
I am a Christian author, and prefer to work with clients who share my faith. While I’m open to editing for clients of any worldview, I do have some specific requirements for what I am willing to read. I will not edit for any manuscript that includes:
- Gratuitous/excessive language (brief language is okay)
- Sexual content of any kind (no-spice romance with kissing or implied, off-page marital intimacy is okay)
- Gratuitous violence/gore (action/battle scenes are okay)
- A narrative arc that attacks traditional Christian beliefs as laid out in the Apostle’s Creed or traditional Christian sexual ethics
If you are unsure whether your manuscript contains content I might refuse to read, feel free to reach out to me via my website’s contact form to discuss specifics. If your manuscript contains any of the content listed above and you fail to tell me before I begin work, this constitutes a violation of your contract with me, and I will not complete editorial work on your manuscript. You will receive a partial refund based on how much work I have already completed, as well as any editorial notes I have so far.
Thank you for respecting my beliefs and comfort level with what I read, and feel free to reach out to me with any questions!
Working with Grace was an absolute pleasure. She was kind, gracious, and helpful, but also forthright, blunt and knowledgeable. Her professionalism really set her apart, and made the entire experience even better. 10/10!
– Christian Peterson, Editing Client
I cannot stress enough the value a professional like Grace brings to the novel-writing process. She caught structure and syntax errors that I had become author blind to. There was invaluable feedback on plot, characters, setting, theme, and voice, among other things.
